Marissa Lins is the founder of Midwest Pilates Institute and owner of Madison Pilates, LLC in Madison, WI. She graduated from Core Dynamics® Inc and is certified by the Pilates Method Alliance. She has over 26 years of movement training including classical and contemporary dance, Pilates, yoga, Gentry Technique, Alexander Technique, and Feldenkries. She has musical training in both piano and voice and is an accomplished swimmer.
Marissa trained exclusively in Pilates for two years under the tutelage of Virginia Nicholas, M.A., R.N. owner of Pilates Core Integration and Moving Breath Pilates in Tempe, AZ. After relocating to her home state in Wisconsin Marissa opened Madison Pilates, LLC in 2004 and became a mentoring studio for Michele Larrson's Core Dynamics®, INC based in Santa Fe, NM. Now retired, Core Dynamics® was a small yet prestigious comprehensive teacher training program dedicated to preserving the authentic Pilates method as Joseph himself taught to his associate Eve Gentry. Eve studied and worked with Joe for over 22 years. With his aid she overcame a very devastating health issue. After Joe's death in 1967 she moved to Santa Fe and developed her own healing method deeply rooted in the Pilates system of exercises, now known as Pre-Pilates, or Gentry Technique. Marissa became a sponge for not only Joe's work but Eve's as well. She is proud to be a descendant in the lineage of Eve Gentry.
Marissa's deep respect for the human bodies innate ability to heal itself led her to complete a Bachelor of Science degree in Natural Health from Clayton College. She continues an on-going apprenticeship with Dr. Willam Conder, a well respected holistic Chiropractic physician, health education researcher, and author of All Medicine Is Energy Medicine and Raw Milk, as well as papers published in the International College of Applied Kinesiology journals. For eleven years Marissa has successfully helped her clients re-educate their bodymind through the Pilates Method and Eve Gentry Technique. She has worked with various men and woman ranging in age from 8-80, has extensive experience teaching persons with back pain and/or injuries, shoulder injuries, hip replacements, osteoporosis, thyroid conditions, neurological disorders, as well as professional athletes, stay at home moms, CEO's, dancers, plumbers, writers, and other professionals.
In spring of 2008 Marissa founded and developed the Midwest Pilates Institute Teacher Training Program. Later in the same year she birthed her first son Alexander at the Madison Birth Center. Marissa has produced a series of Pilates instructional dvds and is currently writing an extensive and comprehensive manual for Pilates students and teachers. In 2010 she voluntarily sought out the Wisconsin Education Approval Board committee to consider her teacher training program for state approval. The Midwest Pilates Institute stands to become the first state-approved Pilates school in Wisconsin and one of only a few in the nation. Because the Pilates profession is not highly regulated there are no comparables to quantify a quality Pilates education for state-approval recognition. Marissa's Midwest Pilates Institute is pioneering the way for all other Pilates schools to come and setting the standard for all other schools to follow.
In 2011 she had the honor of speaking at the 11th Annual Meeting of the Pilates Method Alliance as a panelist with other Pilates industry leaders on the topic "Pilates; The Future of our Profession." Marissa has also developed a Pilates consulting business called Pilates3T™ designed to help other studio owners implement their own quality teacher training program that meets the criteria for certification by the PMA and their state's educational licensing approval board.
